03 Feb 12 1965-1971 Aston Martin DB6

The Aston Martin DB6 was a response the iconic Jaguar E-type. Certain visual cues in the DB6 such as the oval headlights and the sweeping hood-line were reminiscent of the E-type. However, the Aston Martin DB6 was on a class of its own.  As a continuation of the DB line, the DB6 was a remake of the DB5 with a more aerodynamic body shape. For the first time, Aston Martin performed wind tunnel testing to ensure smooth air flow across the vehicle.

Under the hood the engine was replaced with an 4.0 liter inline v6. The engine produced 294 horsepower and the Vantage line produced 325 horsepower.  The superleggera frame was swapped with a more traditional square box metal frame.  Overall the DB6 was faster more fluid and weight about the same as the DB5. Quite a feat for a car with larger interior volume than its predecessor.

22 Jan 12 About the Aston Martin DB4

Aston Martin DB4 was produced from 1958 to 1964. The engine was more powerful than the DB3 bringing total displacement from 2.9 Litres to 3.73 Litres. What made the DB4 unique was is its advanced frame. The frame was an innovative lightweight aluminum forged tube frame dubbed the Superleggera frame. The frame was widely used in aircraft and blimps where strength and weight were important factors.  However the Superleggera frame did have some drawbacks. Since it was hardened aluminum it made for a stiff ride and developed cracks along the welded or brazed joints.

There were different variants produced including a convertible and Vantage modified DB4′s with lighter components and more powerful engines.
